Doosan Robotics said in a statement that the company the robots were showcased on May 17 at the "Doosan Match Play Championship," a five-day event operated by the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA). The company uses five different robots with different specialties -- chicken, noodles, ice creams, coffees, and draft beers. The chicken robot can cook boneless chickens in about six minutes and those with bones in nine minutes and a half.
A noodle robot created through collaboration with South Korea's food and entertainment conglomerate CJ Group can cook some 10 menus including noodles made with rice flour and the one made from wheat flour. About 40 to 50 dishes can be cooked per hour. The solution is currently used at 15 stores operated by VIPS, a family restaurant brand in South Korea.
Doosan Robotics is also utilizing a beverage robot capable of providing a cup of Caffè Americano in 45 seconds and an ice cream robot that can make ice creams with 10 different flavors including chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.
Cooking robots are mainly used to cook fried chicken in South Korea. In August 2021, popular chicken franchise Kyochon opened its first store with a cooking robot in the western port city of Incheon that helps its human coworkers in the kitchen. In February 2022, four different types of robot chefs were tested at the country’s largest Army boot camp in Nonsan some 154 kilometers (96 miles) south of Seoul to reduce the burden of military cooks and the risks of safety accidents.
Collaborative robots are also widely used in factories because of their autonomous operation functions and interactive capabilities. According to data released by Grand View Research, a global market research firm, the global market for collaborative robots will reach $10.1 billion by 2025.
