Chat GPT is an AI-based chatbot service that engages with users in a natural conversation. The AI robot provides on-demand answers and solutions for various demands by users in surprisingly accurate and efficient ways. Some workers started using the Chat GPT service to reduce work time and increase efficiency.
While Chat GPT offers quick and smart answers to users' questions, the nature of the AI-based solution could lead to unintended data leaks as the chatbot also collects data through its conversations with users. Samsung Electronics sent out a message to its workers on May 2 to let them know that the use of generative AI services including Chat GPT is banned from the company's internal web system after the company found out that the chatbot provided answers based on Samsung's exclusive source code.
Various sources spoke on condition of anonymity on May 3 that the Ministry of Science and ICT delivered an official document to related administrative agencies, institutes, and other sub-organizations underlining security guidelines for the usage of generative AI solutions. According to the guidelines, the ministry will not prohibit the use of Chat GPT by government officials as they are the driving force of South Korea's AI industry.
However, the ministry has emphasized that workers should be cautious when using generative AI technology, particularly when they are dealing with sensitive information such as personal information or confidential work materials. The guidelines align with the government initiative designed to promote the use of AI services.
