SEOUL -- BTS member Jungkook was selected as the global ambassador of Calvin Klein, an American fashion brand known for its underwear and denim products, to promote various fashion items and campaigns. Many global stars including British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and American actor Michael B. Jordan have been active as the global brand's ambassadors.

"Jungkook is one of the world's most popular artists; he possesses a rare ability to connect with international audiences through both his music & his style. We're fortunate and excited to have him join Calvin Klein team," Calvin Klein's global chief marketing officer (CMO) said after the artist was announced as the brand's ambassador. Photos of Jungkook wearing the brand's new product were uploaded on March 28.

Collaboration with K-pop artists is gaining momentum among global fashion bands thanks to South Korean pop music’s rising popularity. Dior has collaborated with BLACKPINK member Jisoo and Sehun, a member of boy group EXO. Blackpink member Jennie has been a brand ambassador for Chanel, a Paris-based luxury fashion house. In January 2023, Jimin, the lead vocalist of BTS, was appointed as a global ambassador for Christian Dior, a France-based high-end luxury fashion brand known as Dior.

BTS has shocked global fans with a sudden decision that all members would fulfill their compulsory military service in South Korea technically at war with North Korea. In South Korea, all able-bodied males who are 18 and older must do their mandatory military service for at least 18 months unless they have a valid reason for exemption. Jin, who started his service in December 2022, completed his basic training at a frontline army boot camp in January 2023.
