SEOUL -- J. Cole, an American rapper with six albums that topped Billboard's top 200 popular albums chart, collaborated with J-Hope on the 29-year-old BTS member's single song. The American artist showcased his rapping skills in J-Hope's song titled "on the street," which is a place where the South Korean singer first started to dream of becoming an artist.

J. Cole is known for his husky tone and melodic rap performances. The 38-year-old is regarded as one of the top hip-hop artists along with Kendrick Lamar. The music video for "She Knows," J. Cole's rap song released in 2014 was watched by more than 190 million viewers. In 2013, BTS remastered J. Cole's song "Born Sinner" into a Korean language-based song "Born Singer."

A 40-second music video teaser for "on the street" released on March 2 sparked fans' curiosity as it showed J-Hope meeting with J. Cole somewhere in New York. The official music video was released at 2 p.m. (0500 GMT) on March 3. The lo-fi hip-hop song featured cozy melodies and whistling sounds.

Among seven BTS members, J-Hope is the main dancer who is also talented in rapping. He would become the second BTS member to enlist in the military. In South Korea, all males aged 18 to 28 must do their mandatory military service for more than 18 months unless they have physical or mental problems. Jin, who started his service in December 2022, completed his basic training in January 2023 at a frontline Army boot camp.
