SEOUL -- Hyundai has released an upgraded version of GV60, a compact sport utility electric vehicle of the South Korean carmaker's luxury brand Genesis, featuring facial recognition, vehicle-to-load, and over-the-air update features to all trims.
GV60 was first released in 2019. The first Genesis full-electric SUV was developed using Hyundai's E-GMP platform, a versatile EV platform that plays the role of a base framework for Hyundai and Kia EVs. The rear-wheel-drive model is capable of driving up to 451 kilometers (280 miles) per charge.
Hyundai's EV lineups offer differentiated features compared to other EV brands. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) system allows drivers to use electricity by plugging in power cords into EVs' power outlets. Some Hyundai EVs have facial recognition or fingerprint recognition features that allow drivers to unlock their cars without using a key. Over-the-air (OTA) updates, wireless system updates via mobile phone networks, were allowed earlier in December 2022 through a regulation exemption program.
Genesis released the 2023 version of GV60 on December 16. All trims were given a facial recognition system that allows drivers to unlock their cars as they approach their vehicles. V2L and OTA were also added to all models as a base option. For previous models, such options were only available in higher trims.
"We have strengthened the value of our products so that our customers can experience innovative technologies in which they can commune with their vehicles. We will continue to offer differentiated sensibility through GV 60 models," Genesis said in a statement.
