SEOUL -- In an effort to popularize the company's artificial intelligence-based hotel concierge system, South Korea's largest telecom operator KT has deployed an AI concierge to a hotel in central Seoul. The AI-based system will help hotel operators save manpower costs and effectively manage customer inquiries.

After commercializing a 5G-connected autonomous hotel concierge robot called "N bot" at a hotel near central Seoul in December 2019, KT has accelerated the digital transformation of hotels by releasing other convenient solutions such as smart autonomous delivery robots that could cover some 100 hotel rooms, voice recognition and touch screen input systems, and an AI-based room management solution.

As part of its hotel digital transformation project, KT deployed an AI concierge at Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotels & Residences, the same hotel where N bot was deployed in 2019. The concierge system with a human-sized display can understand and respond to customers' inquiries in real-time. KT said the robot concierge is easy to use, even for people unfamiliar with digital kiosks.

Voice recognition and AI speech technology developed by KT and domestic AI solution company DeepBrain AI was used to make the 3D-generated AI concierge more human-like. The digital display can detect customers nearby using sensors and greet them just like their human counterparts. KT's Ai voice recognition technology allows the concierge to accurately listen to the voice of customers in a noisy environment.

"This AI concierge is the outcome of the synergy between KT's AI and information communication capabilities and DeepBrain AI's knowhow of human-like image composition," KT's consultant office director Lee Mee-hee said in a statement on December 8.
