SEOUL -- Capitalizing on a growing demand for non-face-to-face meeting solutions during a coronavirus pandemic, South Korea's largest telecom service operator KT has partnered with American video conference platform operator Zoom Video Communications to release various business-to-business services.

When South Korea was struck by the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020, about 80 percent of companies decided to have their employees work remotely at home. Workers used various video conference applications on their PCs or smartphones to communicate and participate in multi-user meetings. Schools were shut down with students attending virtual classes at home.

Among many video conference call apps, Zoom was favored in South Korea, cornering a market share of about 80 percent. Company workers and students accessed the easy-to-use and free-to-use solution to establish their working and studying environments at their homes. The app is still frequently used even after people returned to their offices and schools. While private users are free to use the solution, corporate users are charged monthly per account.

Through its partnership with Zoom, KT said that it would release various business-to-business (B2B) services. Using KT's monthly Zoom subscription service, companies can gain access to the video conference app's corporate services. In 2023, the telecom company will release a "Zoom Phone" with an embedded special app that will allow users to access Zoom's service using phone numbers.

KT's mobile cooperation solution will be upgraded through collaboration with Zoom. KT's cooperation tool will offer a video conference feature so that companies can hold meetings anywhere, anytime. "We will continue to provide new B2B solutions for corporate customers who have high interest in global solutions," KT's enterprise service digital transformation division head Min Hye-byeong said in a statement on November 23.
