SEOUL -- NewJeans, a super rookie girl group formed by a subsidiary label of the agency of K-pop superstar BTS, is gaining explosive popularity on Spotify, the world's most popular music streaming service, through its debut song, "Attention." The R&B song released on August 1 was streamed more than 100 million times.

The debut song entered Billboard's global chart nine days after its release and the daily top song USA chart on Spotify less than 50 days after the five-member band's debut. The girl band has also topped the chart of Melon, a major domestic online music service. Only three other girl bands topped Melon's daily chart with their debut song so far -- 2NE1, miss A, and BLACKPINK.

As of November 19, Attention was streamed about 108.4 million times on Spotify. The song featuring hooking melodies showcases young girls' bold attitudes toward their crushes. In the music video, the teenage girls express their honest feelings through a catchy phrase, "You got me looking for attention" with captivating dance moves. Attention also received spotlights through retro-style fashion that imitates '90s fashion trends.

NewJeans' second title song called "Hype Boy" was also streamed more than 100 million times on Spotify. The rookie girl band will roll out "OMG," a song that portrays winter vibes, in January 2023.

The rookie girl group was formed by ADOR under command of Min Hee-jin, a former SM Entertainment creative director who has planned concepts for famous girl groups such as Girls' Generation, f(x) and Red Velvet. In October 2022, NewJeans released dance videos in collaboration with Pinkfong, an educational entertainment company that created the famous carton song "Baby Shark."
