K-pop band Seventeen releases repackaged version of album 'Face the Sun'

SEOUL -- K-pop boy group Seventeen has released a repackaged edition of "Face the Sun," its fourth studio album. Pledis Entertainment said on July 18 that the new album titled "Sector 17" will be available on online music services at 6:00 p.m.. In addition to nine songs from "Face the Sun," "Sector 17" will feature four brand-new songs, including "_World," "Fallin' Flower," and "Cheers."

S. Korea conducts joint military drills with U.S.

SEOUL -- South Korean military officials said on July 18 that Seoul and Washington are in the middle of an 11-day joint drill that started on July 11. The joint drill that is underway at the Army's Korea Combat Training Center involves some 4,300 South Korean soldiers and some 300 U.S. soldiers. The joint drill includes a high-tech training system involving tanks and helicopters.

S. Korea to push to lift taxes on foreign investment in government bonds

SEOUL -- In an effort to help stabilize the debt market, South Korea will push to exempt taxes on interest income and capital gains on foreign investors' purchases of government bonds and monetary stability bonds, Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho said during a press interview on July 17. He said that the government plans to seek the exemption of taxes for foreigners who invest in Treasuries and monetary stabilization bonds.

aespa debuts No. 3 on Billboard's main albums chart with new album 'Girls'

SEOUL -- The second EP by the South Korean girl group aespa, "Girls," debuted at No. 3 on the main Billboard albums chart in the United States. The group surpassed the milestone on the forthcoming Billboard 200 list for this week by selling 56,000 equivalent album units in the United States, according to a report from Billboard published on July 17.

S. Korea sees sharp increase in new COVID cases

SEOUL -- The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said that South Korea added 26,299 new COVID-19 infections, including 319 from abroad, increasing the overall caseload to 18,788,056. In South Korea, infections have sharply increased since the end of June as virus restrictions have been relaxed.
