SEOUL -- Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned multinational energy company, has selected GeoView, a marine survey company in South Korea, for the undersea geophysical exploration and mapping of a venue for the installation of a major floating wind farm off the southeastern port city of Ulsan.

Equinor has been involved in the construction of two floating wind farms off Ulsan. An environmental impact assessment is underway at the company's independent "Firefly" zone where an 800-megawatt wind farm will be built by 2026 in waters about 70 kilometers (43 miles) from the coast. GeoView's survey vessel, GeoView No. 1, is to embark on its survey mission in the "Firefly" zone by the end of June.

Embret Johnsgaard, purchasing director of Equinor's win power project in South Korea, regards the survey as the first milestone in cooperation with South Korean supply chain companies. "Cooperation with South Korea's superior supply chain is an important factor in Equinor's project and part of efforts to build long-term and sustainable partnerships with South Korean companies."

Starting with GeoView, Equinor promised to give South Korean companies more opportunities to participate as partners in the development of offshore wind farms.
