SEOUL -- LVC Corporation, a cryptocurrency and blockchain wing of Japan-based messenger app operator LINE, launched a non-fungible token marketplace called "LINE NFT" in Japan. Users can trade crypto-tokens through a simple process.

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unit of data stored on a blockchain network of interlinked virtual ledgers. Each NFT is certified by a blockchain as a unique digital asset that is not interchangeable. Using LINE NFT, anyone can trade or give away NFTs through simple payment methods. After purchasing NFTs, users can store them in "LINE BITMAX Wallet," a digital asset management wallet.

LVC said in a statement on April 13 that about 40,000 NFTs including tokens for "Mobile Police Patlabor," a popular anime series, and "Betakkuma," a famous character, will be sold. The cryptocurrency company will also showcase an NFT that commemorates Kohei Uchimura, a Japanese gymnast who won three Olympic gold medals. LINE NFT can be accessed through LINE, an instant communication app with more than 90 million users in Japan.

Line Next, a global NFT platform wing of LINE, will launch an NFT platform "DOSI" in the first half of 2022. The platform allows business operators and creators to build their own NFT brand stores and global communities. They will be provided with NFT production and global marketing support programs.
