SEOUL -- The South Korean branch of BMW will work with South Korea's state power company to develop a plug and charge (PnC) service intended to make charging and paying uncomplicated and safe for the customers of electric car manufacturers.

BMW is the first imported car brand in South Korea to develop a PnC service based on international standards. The German company would complete the demonstration of its PnC service between BMW electric vehicles and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) chargers by the end of 2022.

BMW would acquire KEPCO's public key infrastructure-based electronic certificates that apply security communication technology according to international standards. The PnC service is to begin in 2023. Both companies would expand technology cooperation in V2G (vehicle to grid), a two-way charging and discharging service that enables energy to be pushed back to the power grid from the battery of an electric car.
