SEOUL -- Seoul has partnered with Kakao Enterprise, the artificial intelligence-based enterprise solution wing of South Korea's web service giant Kakao, to digitally transform its administrative structure into an AI-based process automation system that will manage information and help government workers through robot collaboration.

Digital transformation is an optimization process for a company, an organization, or an administrative system to throw away outdated aspects and adopt new efficient AI-based technologies that could improve the work environment and enhance the speed and quality of work.

Seoul Digital Foundation (SDF) operated by the capital city partnered with Kakao Enterprise to jointly research and develop AI algorithms for administrative work systems. SDF and city government premises will be used as a testbed for AI-based digital transformation technologies which would be applied to the whole city in the future.

As their first task, SDF and Kakao will develop a point-of-contact (PoC) technology for a facial recognition-based building access management system that will recognize the faces of authorized personnel. Unauthorized people will be denied access. AI-based automated process solutions will support human workers, and an AI chatbot system will be developed for educational and customer service purposes.

Digital transformation technologies to be developed and demonstrated at the testbed will be commercialized to help improve the livelihood of Seoulites. "Through this cooperation, we will continue to seek platforms and solutions that would accelerate digital innovations throughout Seoul," Kakao Enterprise CEO Baek Sang-yeop said in a statement on April 6.
