LAS VEGAS -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, the world's top shipbuilder, revealed its future blueprint for the next 50 years at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and vowed to become the "future builder".

"Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, which have grown for the last 50 years to become the world's top shipbuilder, will change into the future builder that would create new values for mankind," the shipbuilding group's CEO Chung Ki-sun told reporters during a press conference at CES on January 6.

"We will become the world's No. 1 pioneer for the next 50 years and produce new opportunities for growth." Chung selected shipbuilding, energy, and machinery as the three main business areas of the company and stressed that Hyundai Heavy Industries Group will establish a chain of sustainable growth based on autonomous vessels, green hydrogen ecosystems, and digital technologies.

Chung emphasized that the future plan is not aimed at launching a few projects or products but it is designed to change everything. He also added that the increased market demands for eco-friendly vessels due to strengthened regulations will bring opportunities for South Korea's shipbuilding industry.
