SEOUL -- At a trade fair in Las Vegas, LG Display, a major flat panel maker in South Korea, will unveil new transparent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) solutions that can provide differentiated customer experiences in various spaces such as shopping malls, offices, and homes.

Transparent OLED screens display black content as transparent, allowing designers to overlay digital content such as images, text and video onto real-life objects placed behind the transparent screen. LG officials suggest transparent OLED can be widely used in various places such as hotel check-in counters, museums, subways, stores, self-driving cars and aircraft cabin interiors because they do not need backlights

LG Display will operate an online exhibition hall at CES 2022 in January to showcase new solutions using transparent OLED screens. Four 55-inch transparent OLEDs will be connected for a transparent show window and a transparent showcase for product promotion. Product information and graphic effects can be provided simultaneously along with displayed products to maximize advertising effects.

Transparent OLEDs are applied to office windows for video conferencing, presentation, and entertainment. For a home screen concept called "Transparent Shelf"  for interior design, two transparent OLEDs are connected up and down and harmonize with living room walls to create luxurious interior effects. While watching videos, it can be used as art gallery or in a function that always displays watches without turning on the screen.
