The metaverse is a digital world that connects physical reality to virtual spaces. Users can have firsthand experiences through virtual reality (VR) using their own avatars. Naver has focused on developing various metaverse platforms using super-fast 5G networks. Naver's avatar platform Zepeto has secured more than 200 million users, allowing them to create 3D avatars based on face recognition techniques.
Through the investment, Naver will cooperate with Gaudio Lab to nurture skilled personnel and develop "overwhelming" audio technologies targeting the global metaverse audio market, the web giant service said in a statement on October 14. Since 2015, Naver D2SF and Gaudio Lab have cooperated to develop various audio technologies. The two companies jointly created "loudness normalization" technology that automatically provides optimized volume based on a user's environment and "immersive audio" technology that provides vivid sound in online environments. The immersive audio technology was adopted by Naver Now, Naver's streaming service, to broadcast "Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival 2021" held in the western port city of Incheon on October 9 and 10.
"With our fantastic audio technology, we will become the standard for the metaverse-based audio market and upgrade the audio experience for global users," Oh Hyun-oh, CEO of Gaudio Lab was quoted as saying.
