SEOUL -- Kia, a carmaker affiliated with South Korea's Hyundai auto group, released teaser images for EV6, a new sport utility vehicle based on a dedicated battery platform for electric vehicles. The new model shares the platform used for IONIQ 5, a utility vehicle unveiled by Hyundai in February.

E-GMP is the auto group's battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. Unlike other ordinary electric vehicles with a battery system and an electric motor put on a conventional vehicle platform instead of an internal combustion engine and a powertrain, E-GMP is dedicated to full EVs. It has strengths in charging, performance, battery structure, and safety, compared to ordinary EVs.

"EV6 is also the first of Kia’s next-generation BEVs to be developed under a new design philosophy that embodies Kia’s shifting focus towards electrification," Kia said in a statement on March 8. EV6 embodies simple, futuristic, and dynamic designs. It carries the new brand logo of Kia that was renovated in January 2021.

"It has been designed to inspire every journey by offering an instinctive and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers, and provides user ownership that is simple, intuitive, and integrated," Kia's global design center head Karim Habib said. EV6 will be showcased through a world premiere event in March.
