SEOUL -- The cloud service wing of Kakao, a major web service company involved in technology-related businesses in South Korea, has forged a partnership with a state intellectual property office to provide a smart keyword search feature that will help patent judges to efficiently look for similar patents and compare documents.

Kakao Enterprise said in a statement on February 7 that the company would apply an AI-based keyword search service to the online archive system of the Korean Intellectual Property Office. They cooperated in 2020 to provide translated services for foreign patent documents.

"By applying AI techniques, similar documents can be searched through an integrated analysis of keyword information and the similarity of documents," a Kakao Enterprise official was quoted as saying. Kakao will also utilize the patent office's big data to kick-start other projects.

The AI-based cloud service company was launched in 2019 to check big foreign players such as Amazon and Microsoft. Kakao Enterprise provides various services including platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) interlinked with Kakao's AI network.
