SEOUL -- A South Korean hospital opened a colonofiberscope center installed with Dr. Answer, an artificial intelligence-based smart medical software that has been developed in a state-sponsored project to support the prediction and diagnosis of diseases.

The Ministry of Science and ICT said that a ceremony was held on January 18 to open a colonofiberscope center installed with Dr. Answer at the Gachon University Gil Medical Center in the port city of Incheon. Dr. Anwer is an AI-based medical software that has been developed in a project involving 26 medical institutions and 22 ICT companies which have analyzed medical data for three years.

It was South Korea's first colonoscopy examination system based on Dr. Answer. Gil is in charge of developing software for the predictive diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Dr. Answer's colonoscopy software analyzed medical data from 80,000 people for the early detection and treatment of colon cancer. It helps medical staff find colon polyps during endoscopic examinations.

"Dr. Answer is a successful case of convergence between AI and medical care," Science and ICT Minister Choi Ki-young said in a statement. Dr. Answer can simplify patients' genetic data with developmental disabilities and helps medical workers make quick diagnoses.

To take the upper hand in the medical AI market, global tech companies have upgraded medical AI platforms to release new services. South Korea has tried to develop intelligent medical software that can support the prediction and diagnosis of diseases in the medical field targeting cerebrovascular disease, heart disease, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and dementia.
