SEOUL -- South Korea's Hyundai auto group has formed a new unit called "New Horizons Studio" to develop ultimate mobility vehicles (UMVs) targeting customers who have a need for travel in unconventional and off-road terrain.

The studio envisions building vehicles to wander with unprecedented mobility by reimagining how vehicles might traverse the world, Hyundai said in a statement.. "We aim to create the world’s first transformer-class vehicle, also known as the Ultimate Mobility Vehicle,” New Horizons Studio head John Suh was quoted as saying.

Hyundai said Elevate is the inaugural vehicle concept now being developed by New Horizons Studio. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2019, Hyundai showcased the concept model of Elevate, an experimental four-legged electric vehicle capable of traversing unforgiving terrains to reach disaster sites. The concept is based on creating a modular electric vehicle capable of switching different bodies for specific situations.
