The Philippines is the country that searched the most for dalgona coffee, followed by Singapore and Brunei.
Google Korea thinks that dalgona coffee, a sweet consolation to Koreans who began to distance themselves from society and a game to soothe their boredom, is now passed on to all parts of the world and became a "magic recipe" for sympathizing with and cheering for each other.
Dalgona coffee is a beverage made by whipping equal proportions of instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water until it becomes creamy and then adding it to cold or hot milk. Occasionally, it is topped with coffee powder, cocoa, crumbled biscuits, or honey.
The drink earned its name from dalgona, a street snack for children in the 1970s, which was made by heating sugar, oil, and baking soda and mixing them until it's thick and fluffy.
Dubbed "quarantine coffee," people all over the world make dalgona coffee at home. The new craze started in January when Korean actor Jung Il-woo showed how to make the drink. On February 22, ddulgi, a Korean YouTuber, posted a dalgona coffee video that went viral. Other YouTubers have quickly followed suit with their takes on dalgona coffee.
