SEOUL -- Netflix, the world's top over-the-top video-on-demand service operator, has recorded the biggest number of viewers due to a social distancing program aimed at containing a novel coronavirus infection.

According to a survey of Android smartphone users in South Korea, conducted by app market research company Wiseapp, 4.63 million people used Netflix in March, up 22 percent from a month ago. Other video-sharing apps such as YouTube and TicToc also saw the number of users increase by an average of 21.5 percent.

Netflix's original content attracted old and new subscribers. The second season of Kingdom, a South Korean zombie-thriller drama, was released on March 12 and mesmerized horror film lovers worldwide. "I think Netflix is perfect for social-distancing," said Jeong-Gu-Jeong, a 28-year-old businesswoman. "I just cannot stop watching this.".
