SEOUL -- In an effort to firm its ground in the premium home appliance market, LG Electronics will release artificial intelligence (AI)-based front-loading washing machines and clothes dryers that would jointly manage the washing and drying of clothing by sharing big data.

LG said that its new appliances to be released at home in February are capable of automatically providing the most optimized washing and drying courses by smartly sharing information using LG's AI-based home network.

LG said the AI system can detect abnormal vibration patterns and predict parts malfunction. The front-loading washing machine is equipped with a low-noise direct-drive motor and a convenient pedestal washer. The dryer fitted with a dual inverter heat pump can dry different loads of washed clothes simultaneously at different temperatures.

LG's new appliances support Google's voice assistant or Amazon's Alexa smartphone apps.
