SEOUL -- SM Entertainment, an entertainment powerhouse in South Korea, will work with Intel, an American technology company, to produce immersive K-pop content using volumetric motion capture technology at Intel's studio space dedicated to the production of virtual reality, augmented reality and other types of cutting-edge content.

SM, home to Girls' Generation, SHINee, EXO, NCT and SuperM, said that its founder, Lee Soo-man, discussed cooperation with Intel during his visit in October to Intel Studios in Los Angeles on introducing immersive content by combining volumetric capture technology with K-pop's story-telling. The first joint project is a task to see the stage of NCT 127, a sub-unit of NCT, at 360 degrees from any direction.

Intel Studios features a large stage for volumetric video capturing that makes videos more immersive for viewers. Instead of just filming from a handful of different angles, it uses many cameras to capture an entire scene in 360 degrees in volumetric 3D for the production of high-end holographic VR and AR content.

Lee was praised for transforming the landscape of South Korea's music scene, which had been focused on folk songs and ballads played by real bands, into a stage full of dance performances based on group choreography, strong and rhythmic hip-hop beats and electronic sounds. More recently, he formed SuperM, a boy band comprised of SM's top artists, which demonstrated its potential in the American music scene with its initial Billboard success in October.
