FT ISLAND's Lee Hong-gi says farewell to fans before joining boot camp

SEOUL -- Hundreds of fans including those from Japan, China and Russia gathered outside a front-line army boot camp to send off Lee Hong-gi, an FT ISLAND member. Fans waved placards with a slogan reading "We will be waiting for you."

"I will come back with my voice healthy as I promised," the 29-year-old told fans before walking into the training camp of the 21st Infantry Division in Yanggu some 115 kilometers (71 miles) northeast of Seoul.

Lee thanked fans for their love and said he would try to stay healthy until he returns. FT ISLAND, a four-member band, debuted in 2007 and Lee is the first to enlist.
