SEOUL -- SK Networks, a trading and retail arm of South Korea's third-largest conglomerate, has forged an alliance with Hyundai Motor to establish a future eco-friendly charging station for electric vehicles which would provide special services for both drivers and electric cars.

SK Networks signed a deal with Hyundai Wednesday to jointly establish electric car charging stations that would match a new market environment and the rapidly changing lifestyle of drivers. They will open the first station built on an area of about 3,300 square meters in eastern Seoul in the second half of next year by converting an SK Networks gas station.

The innovative charging station will provide conveniences by operating a rest area for drivers and local residents as well as a total car care service via a specialized smartphone app. Hyundai will install 350 KW-class chargers with unique designs to reduce time. Some charging stations will operate membership lounges.

Tesla, an American electronic carmaker, opened two premium charging stations called "Superchargers" that features a lounge with food, refreshments, a play area for children and an outdoor rest area for families in the United States in November last year.
