SEOUL -- French tire company Michelin has published the new version of Michelin Guide Seoul, a century-old restaurant and hotel guidebook, that listed 191 dining places including 26 restaurants with stars.

In "Michelin Guide Seoul 2019", unveiled in Seoul on Thursday, La Yeon, a high-end traditional Korean restaurant in Hotel Shilla, and Gaon, a fine restaurant run by ceramic maker Kwangjuyo, earned three stars for three consecutive years.

Michelin rates hotels and restaurants by awarding stars. Among 21,000 restaurants listed, just over 100 were awarded three stars for offering exceptional cuisine worth a special journey. Two stars go to restaurants worth a detour for excellent cuisine and one star to those with high-quality cooking, worth stopping at.

Five restaurants including Kwonsooksoo, a traditional Korean restaurant, and Jungsik, a modern Korean dining place, were decorated with two stars, while Alla Prima and Mingles, which were both one-star restaurants in the previous edition, were given two stars. One star went to 19 restaurants.

Last week, Michelin unveiled a list of 61 restaurants awarded with Bib Gourmand. The award is given out to offering a quality menu for a maximum of about $40. This year's Bib Gourmand list offers a diversity of menus, ranging from a traditional Korean hangover soup restaurant to Italian restaurant.
