When you travel to a vacation destination, many tourists rely on travel books and Google search to find the restaurants to check out. However, sometimes it is more reliable to ask a local to find the real spots that represent the local flavor.
By asking locals in Vienna, Austria, AJU found a hidden gem, Glacis Beisl, to dine in, It is secretly tucked away from a street. It is not far from Mariahilfer Strasse, a popular shopping street that is not so flooded with tourists. It may be a little hard to find but with its cozy setting and great food, it is worth the effort to visit this restaurant.
Glacis Beisl serve the local fare. This would be the great restaurant to try Schnitzel, a classic Austrian dish.
Glacis Beisl is located off of Breite Gasse. If you go down the stairs from the street, turn left into a passage. Then it opens up to a cozy outdoor patio with cute vibrant tables and chairs.
You can go ahead grab a seat, the servers will come and bring you a menu. Unless you can read German, you can ask for English menu.
Glacis Beisl serves superb Austrian dishes. The pictured dishes here are Tafelspitz mit Apfelkren und Rosti and Wiener Schnitzel mit gemischtem Salat.
Tafelspitz mit Apfelkren und Rosti is boiled prime beef with hash brown potatoes, apple horseradish sauce. Wiener Schnitzel mit gemischtem Salat is Viennese Schnitzel, a thinly sliced veal breaded with crumbs and fried, with mixed salad. The portion here is pretty generous.
