Dear fellow citizens,
I would like to make a sincere apology once again for all the worries I have induced because of my fault.
Having seen the grief and pain of the people, I wish to make a hundred apologies if I could make things right. My heart is breaking down even more when I think that I cannot relieve all their disappointment and anger.
My fellow citizens,
When I look back, I feel grateful for the precious journey I've made together with the people in the past 18 years.
From the day I started my career as a politician back in 1998 and until now as the President, I have thrown all my effort into serving our people and the country. Not for a single moment, I have neither sought any personal gains nor had any ulterior motive.
Various problems have surfaced while I was carrying out state projects for the good of the country, and I did not take any personal profit. However, it was my terrible fault that I could not properly manage those around me.
I will make a full explanation about the recent incident in the near future.
My fellow citizens!
At a time when we are faced with a difficult situation at home and abroad, I have spent many sleepless nights thinking over and over about what I should do to bring the best result for our people and country.
Hereby, I would like to clarify my decision. I will let the National Assembly determine my fate including the reduction of my presidential term.
I will step down from the presidency according to a timetable and legal procedures if the ruling and the opposition parties work out ways to minimize an administrative vacuum and disturbances in state affairs and to transfer power in a stable manner.
Now, I have taken my minds off everything. All I wish is that the Republic of Korea will get out of chaos as soon as possible and find back its track.
Once again, I would like to extend my sincere apology to the people, and I urge the political community to gather its wisdom for the bright future of our nation.
