Actress Lee Young-ae to star in TV drama 'Saimdang, the Herstory'

After a 10-year hiatus, actress Lee Young-ae, who is known for the 2003 hit Korean TV drama "Daejanggeum (Jewel in the Palace)," will appear in drama "Saimdang, the Herstory," its production company said Wednesday.

The 44-year-old Lee halted her career after starring in Park Chan-woo's crime thriller film "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005)." In 2009, Lee married Jeong Ho-young, a Korean-American businessman. She gave birth to twins, one boy and one girl, in 2011.  

"Saimdang" depicts the life of Shin Saimdang (1504-1551), the mother of Yulgok, a prominent Confucian scholars of Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), the company, Group Eight, said.  

In the new drama series which will begin airing early next year, Lee will play two characters, Saimdang and a college lecturer who majored in Korean art history, it said.

"Daejanggeum" was aired overseas in 2004 and gained popularity in countries in the Middle East and Africa as well as in Asia including Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
