Lionel Messi's transfer value estimated at 220 mil. euro, world's highest

Who is the footballer having the highest transfer value in the world?

The CIES Football Observatory disclosed the list of the 120 big-5 league players with the highest transfer value, Monday (local time).

FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi topped the list, with a transfer value estimated at 220 million euro (approximately 287.1 billion won).

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo ranked second with 133 million euro, followed by Eden Hazard of Chelsea (99 million euro), Diego Costa of Chelsea (84 million euro) and Paul Pogba of Juventus (72 million euro). 

Also included in the top 10 were Sergio Agüero of Manchester City (65 million euro), Raheem Sterling of Liverpool (63 million euro), Francesc Fàbregas of Chelsea (62 million euro), Alexis Sánchez of Arsenal (61 million euro) and Gareth Bale of Real Madrid (60 million euro).

The CIES Football Observatory, a private foundation affiliated to the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland, says the transfer values are calculated using an exclusive algorithm developed on the basis of over 1,500 fee paying transfers occurred since 2009. Variables included in its exclusive econometric model are player performances and their characteristics such as age, position and contract duration.
