The rate of obesity among South Korean male children aged between five and 17 stood at 25 percent, two percentage points higher than the OECD average of 23 percent, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare Friday. OECD stands for the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.

It ranked 12th among 40 countries surveyed, including non-OECD nations, the ministry said.

The rate of obesity among South Korean adults, on the other hand, placed fifth following India, Indonesia, China and Japan, it said.
