Messi ties with Neymar in top scorer table of 2014 World Cup

Argentina’s forward and captain Messi ties with Brazil’s Neymar in the top scorer table of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Each of them scored four goals in three matches as of Wednesday (local time).

Messi led Argentina to 3-2 win over Nigeria in their final Group F World Cup preliminary soccer match at the Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Messi scored his side’s first goal in the third minute. During injury time in the first half, he scored 2-1 lead on a free kick.

On June 16, Messi led Argentina to 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group F opener. He scored his side’s second goal in the 65th minute and made it 2-0. It was the first goal he scored in the FIFA World Cup finals since the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

On June 22, Messi hit the late winner as Argentina edged Iran 1-0.

Argentina, which topped Group F with three wins, will take on Switzerland, which took the second spot in Group E, in the Round of 16.
