The crown prince of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will visit South Korea next week to discuss the details of a nuclear reactor construction plan, a government source said Thursday.

The source at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been invited by President Lee Myung-bak to come to South Korea on Monday to discuss outstanding bilateral economic issues.

The official, who declined to be identified, said that the crown prince is expected to elaborate on the building plan for the commercial reactors that a consortium led by Korea Electric Power Corp. won late last year.

The US$1.86 billion deal calls for the building of four South Korean-designed APR-1400 reactors in the Middle Eastern country by 2020. The contract marks the first time that South Korea has secured an export order for reactors.

He also said that the four-day visit by the effective leader of Abu Dhabi, the largest member of the UAE federation, will fuel cooperation in the information technology and energy sectors. Without going into details, the ministry source said Abu Dhabi has asked for the use of oil storage facilities controlled by state-run Korea National Oil Corp.

Seoul, meanwhile, is expected to ask for greater participation by South Korean companies in the development of UAE's energy resources.//Yonhap
