SEOUL -- CJ Olive Young, the drug and beauty store franchise of South Korea's CJ Group, has launched a mobile app to provide recommendations for health supplements. A COVID-19 pandemic has boosted awareness of health supplements, especially among young consumers who regard health management as an investment for their future.

According to the Korea Health Supplements Association, an association of dietary product makers, South Korea's health supplement market stood at five trillion won ($4.4 billion) in 2020. Olive Young's dietary products including vitamin pills and protein powders have gained popularity.

Olive Young said in a statement that the company partnered with Vi-meal, a smartphone health solution platform operator, to provide personalized suggestions using big data-based algorithms. "We have adopted the health supplements suggestion service to maximize the convenience and delivery of product information for our Millennial and Z Generation customers who form a key next-generation consumer group," said Olive Young.

When customers enter their age, gender and living patterns, a mobile app will provide recommendations for health supplements, Olive Young said, adding that the company would expand a lineup of health supplements to meet growing market demands. The company thinks the pandemic has expanded the spectrum of consumers who buy health supplements.
