SEOUL -- Mando, an auto parts maker affiliated with South Koreas Halla Group, has showcased the company's future vehicle solutions that are focused on providing the feeling of freedom for the driver and passengers. The online showcase took place as part of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's biggest electronics exhibition, went fully online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 2,000 companies opened virtual showrooms to attract consumers and investors. The online electronics show ends on January 14.

Through the online showcase that took place on January 11, Mando introduced solutions for electric vehicles to make them more spacious by reducing the number of parts used in the car's system and allowing protruding parts inside the cabin such as the steering wheel and pedals to be stowed away when they are not being used.

"Steer-by-Wire" (SbW) maximizes passengers' in-cabin experiences by allowing the steering wheel to be stowed away when not in use. It was awarded the CES 2021 Innovation Award Honoree. "Carmakers can now enjoy the freedom from their architectural limits of vehicle design," Mando said in a statement.

"Brake-by-wire" (BbW) is part of Mando's future automotive system. It is composed of four units of electro-mechanical brakes (EMBs), an electronic brake pedal (E-Brake Pedal), and a domain control unit (DCU).

The futuristic brake system purely operates by electric signals to eliminate conventional brake system parts including an electronic stability control (ESC) module, parking cables, and oil tubes, reducing the chances of a parts malfunction. Pedals can also be stowed away to provide more space when they are not being used.

Mando also introduced a chainless pedal-assisted electric drive system module for micro-mobility makers. The system can be fitted into electric cycles with two wheels or more. Mando said the electric drive system designed for the delivery market will hit the European market this year.
