SEOUL -- KT, a leading telecom company in South Korea, will carry out research for the development of a platform to measure the risk of COVID-19 infection, with financial support from the Research Investment for Global Health Technology (RIGHT) Fund, which is a funding agency dedicated to supporting global health research and development.

KT said it would measure the risk of infection by analyzing data related to past movements of smartphone app users and movements of COVID-19 patients through artificial intelligence and big data while minimizing the exposure of personal information.

KT said its platform will be able to lay the foundation for the effective screening of high-risk groups as it can find direct and indirect contacts of patients and use them to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while minimizing the exposure of personal information.

"We hope that this project utilizing ICT, which is South Korea's strong point, will succeed and have a practical impact on prevention, treatment and management of COVID-19 in underdeveloped countries," said Right Fund Foundation CEO Kim Youn-been.
