SEOUL -- As a measure to prevent the evil practice of cyberbullying that has driven people including popular celebrities to death, South Korea's top web portal operator Naver has decided to publicize the online comment history of all users.

Naver said Wednesday that the history of online comments posted on the news section will be publicly revealed. Currently, users can choose whether to reveal the list of online comments which they wrote. Naver will adopt artificial intelligence technologies to filter out malicious comments and ban users if necessary.

Naver's move came after Kakao, the operator of the country's second web portal Daum, blocked its comment features for entertainment news following the tragic death of singer-actress Choi Jin-ri, well known by her stage name Sulli.

Dogged by hate comments and malicious rumors, Sulli committed suicide at her house in October last year. Singer Goo Ha-ra, better known as Hara, also committed suicide at her home in November. The two had been close friends who shared sadness and loneliness. When they expressed extreme grief through social media posts but cyberbullies did not stop.
