SEOUL -- LG Electronics unveiled its new dual-screen smartphone V60 THINQ 5G featuring 5G connectivity and ultra-high-definition 8K video recording, saying it is designed for a mobile lifestyle and built to maximize productivity and entertainment.

The company will start selling its new phone in North America, Europe and Asia in March. The larges-sized phone features a 6.8-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display and supports a dual-screen accessory, LG's iconic flip book-like display cover that works as an external display.

"Our strategy is to introduce differentiated 5G devices to meet the rise in consumer demands as the global 5G market matures," LG’s mobile communication division head Morris Lee was quoted as saying. He said the new phone is ideal for consumers who create or consume content using 5G mobile networks.

LG said that four high-performance microphones allow for recording sounds from various directions to deliver realistic audio experiences. Users can separates voices from background noise, allowing content creators to place more focus on the subject while reducing excess noise.

Despite LG's ambitious unveiling of V60, consumers showed a lukewarm reaction. "LG said that they removed the telescopic lens from V60's camera because nobody used them. What they should have done is to think about how they made such bad cameras," said ezkiller, a user from South Korean online IT community Clien. Another user Frank Sausage said: "It has no unique points. I don't see anything special about V60."

LG has two flagship smartphone line-ups such as G, a standard-sized high-performance line-up, and V, a premium line-up with larger displays. Starting this year, the company decided not to release the G series at home.
