SEOUL -- With only a few weeks left to go for an unpacking event,  photographs showing the purported images of Galaxy Z Flip, a new clamshell-type foldable smartphone from Samsung Electronics leaked online.

WinFuture, a German tech media, released related pictures and information about the specs of Samsung's new foldable smartphone, saying it has a 6.7-inch 2636 X 1080 resolution foldable display with an Infinity O display, a punch hole on the top of the screen for Z Flip's front-facing camera.

Galaxy Z Flip houses Qualcomm's snapdragon 855+ processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. WinFuture said the phone does not support 5G and it has a dual-lens camera on its rear. The main rear camera is powerful enough to capture 4K 60 frames-per-second video.

According to online reviewers and media outlets, Samsung's second foldable smartphone is likely to be released in the United States on February 14 with a price tag of $1,400.

Samsung hinted at its clamshell-type foldable smartphone during "Samsung Developer Conference 2019" held in California in October last year.  Galaxy Z Flip is the successor of Galaxy Fold, Samsung's first foldable smartphone released in September last year.

The first foldable phone was to be released in April last year, but the schedule was postponed because of display hinge malfunctions and damages caused to the phone's display. However, it became the must-have item for tech-savvy consumers. In some countries such as China and Brazil, the first batches of Galaxy Fold were sold out on the first day of release.

While Galaxy Fold actually folds out like a book to turn into a tablet PC with a 7.3-inch display, the form factor for Samsung's second foldable phone showed a different concept of folding in half like a folder-type mobile phone that was popular in the 1990s.

The new phone could be bent to an L-shape so that it can be placed stably on a surface by itself while users film videos with a front-facing camera.
