SEOUL -- A virtual TV home shopping studio using 3D graphic virtual reality technology will make its debut this week so that consumers can feel like seeing and purchasing products such as household appliances at real stores.

SK stoa, the TV home shopping subsidiary of SK Telecom, a top mobile carrier in South Korea, said Monday that its first VR-applied broadcast would premiere on January 15 to provide a new shopping experience.

Virtual studios will appear against the backdrop of a show host. The first one is a three-dimensional display of living space such as living rooms kitchens, that are actually implemented as if they were in the place. A home appliance store will be implemented as showrooms at the virtual studio.

To strengthen its media commerce, SK stoa said it would expand new technologies such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality to home shopping.

"Video differentiation is becoming very important in home shopping broadcasts," SK stoa CEO Yun Seok-am said. "We have tried this VR broadcast to provide practical experiences to our customers through new broadcasting videos, and we will try to expand it to various product categories in the future so that consumers can satisfy various tastes."
