SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has quietly unveiled "Galaxy XCover Pro", a rugged smartphone, targeting consumers who need reliable and sturdy phones.

The South Korean tech giant introduced the extra-tough smartphone on Wednesday, underlining XCover's shockproof ability to withstand falls from 1.5 meters (4.9 feet). The rugged phone has earned IP69 and military-grade certifications, meaning that it would survive the harshest conditions.

Rugged phones are favored at work sites such as construction sites and workshops where ordinary phones get broken easily. They are favored by consumers with young children or pets.

Samsung's XCover is fitted with a powerful Exynos 9611 system on chip (SOC) and a 64-gigabyte onboard storage. It also has a removable large-sized 4,050 milliAmpere hour which is enough to power the phone for a whole day without charging.

Galaxy XCover Pro will hit the shelves in European countries including Finland on January 31 at a price of 500 Euros.
