SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics' next-generation AI platform called "NEON" to be unveiled at CES 2020 in Las Vegas can create new expressions, movements and dialog, completely different from originally captured data, according to its developer.

NEON is an artificial human project led by Pranav Mistry, an India-based AI expert who holds the youngest executive title of Samsung Electronics. At CES 2020, he would give an explanation about the new AI platform's software, CORE R3. Samsung set up an advanced research and development hub in 2017 to beef up AI developing capabilities.

"Flying to CES tomorrow, and the code is finally working :) Ready to demo CORE R3. It can now autonomously create new expressions, new movements, new dialog (even in Hindi), completely different from the original captured data," Mistry tweeted.

The world's largest smartphone maker acquired VIV, an American startup which develops AI technology, in 2016 and released Bixby, a deep learning-based AI platform, in March 2017. Bixby is now used for Samsung smartphones and provides a voice assistant feature. With Bixby, Samsung smartphones can carry out tasks such as controlling connected devices and do keyword searches on the web.

In November 2019, Samsung unveiled its first AI voice assistant speaker equipped with four infra-red transmitters that can send signals to non-connected home appliances such as TVs to control them with voice commands. The speaker is expected to hit the shelves at home in 2020.
