SEOUL -- Lotte Data Communication, an IT service management company in Seoul, teamed up with Corys, a French company for transportation, power and hydrocarbon simulators devoted to training and engineering, to cooperate in operator training simulators needed for smart factories and find new business models.

Corys leads the operator training and simulation (OTS) market in the fields of power, petrochemicals and transportation. OTS is a computer-based training system that uses a dynamic simulation model of an industrial process, usually integrated with an emulator of the plant's distributed control system.

Lotte Data Communication, a unit of Lotte Group, said Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Corys on business cooperation in OTS. "With this MOU, we will be more competitive in the future for next-generation smart factories," Lotte Data Communication CEO Ma Yong-deuk said, adding his company would create new business models for automated factories and OST.

Lotte Data Communication has promised to diversify its business portfolio through increased investment in blockchain, artificial intelligence and internet-of-things (IoT) technologies. The company, which has branches in Vietnam, Indonesia and China, showcased a blockchain-based distribution service in September last year to help consumers receive safe and reliable food.
