SEOUL -- Hyundai Rotem, a leading manufacturer of rolling stocks and defense products in South Korea, has finished the construction of an aluminum air-float conveyor system that carries coal from a port to a nearby outdoor storage facility. It would the first of its kind in South Korea.

Hyundai Rotem, a unit of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, said in a statement on Tuesday that the air float conveyor system was established in the port of Boryeong, 35 kilometers (83 miles) southwest of Seoul, under an 80.9 billion won ($67.8 million) order from Korea Midland Power, a public energy company.

The system can carry about 3,200 tons of coal per hour. An air float conveyor system floats belts with air. It consumes less power and makes less noise than conventional roller-type conveyor systems. It has a concealed structure that reduces dust emissions and prevents the load from collapsing over its side.
