SEOUL -- Studio Canal, a French film production and distribution company, has decided to remake the French version of "Cheer Up, Mr. Lee", a South Korean family comedy film.

New Entertainment World, a film distributor in South Korea, said in a statement on Monday that Studio Canal and Yong Film, a domestic film production company, have agreed to create a French remake version of "Cheer Up. Mr. Lee".

A Studio Canal official was quoted as saying that the French company judged that French fans would love the comedy film's unique warm smile and emotion.

Cheer Up, Mr. Lee depicts a story about a mentally challenged man and his sick daughter. The film starring Cha Seung-won and Um Chae-young has attracted 886,040 moviegoers since it hit the box-office on September 11, according to the Korea Film Council's data.

Studio Canal, which has the world's third-largest library of films, has created popular films such as "Billy Elliot", "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Love Actually".
