SEOUL -- South Korean game maker NCSOFT, well-known for its "Lineage" online game series, has introduced a new gaming platform which interworks between PC and mobile devices without the need of establishing an emulating system.

Currently, PC users can play smartphone games using computers but a system which mimics that of a mobile device platform must be emulated.

NCSOFT revealed "PURPLE", a new gaming platform, during a showcase in Seoul Thursday for "Lineage2M", the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

"PURPLE is a new gaming platform that connects boundaries and goes beyond limits, bringing an infinite expansion of the gaming experience," NCSOFT's chief publishing officer Kim Taek-heon told reporters. Lineage 2M will be NCSOFT's first game to interwork on both PC and smart device environment.

According to NCSOFT, PURPLE will also work as a community hub for users. It will live stream the gameplay of other players and users can join anytime they want. The game maker said Lineage 2M would be released later this year.

NCSOFT is well known for a series of MMORPG based on the world of "Lineage", the first-generation MMORPG serviced in South Korea from 1998. The company has expanded its Lineage brand to the mobile gaming industry with remakes of its previous works, "Lineage M" and "Lineage 2: Revolution", published by another South Korean gaming giant Netmarble, that became the best sellers in the mobile app market.
