SEOUL -- LS Cable & Systems, a major South Korean cable manufacturer, has won a deal to build a fiber-optic network in Nepal by beating Chinese and Indian companies with an emphasis on price competitiveness and experience in working under tough natural circumstances.

LS Cable said Thursday it has secured an order from Nepal Telecom, a state-owned telecom service provider, to build a fiber-optic network in the country's eastern alpine region including the foothills of Kangchenjunga in the Himalayas.

LS Cable has accumulated its experience by carrying out projects in countries with frequent natural disasters such as Indonesia and Bangladesh. "We are currently working on strategies to target markets with high value-added products that are specialized for each country and region," said Myung Roh-hyun, president of LS Cable which produces an ultra-high-voltage power cable system.
