SEOUL -- Singer Kang Daniel, a former member of defunct project boy band Wanna One, has postponed his fan meeting in Hong Kong which was originally scheduled to be held on August 18.

"Through a series of thorough discussions with local event organizers UnUsUaL Entertainment and Sun Entertainment, we have decided to postpone the event due to local situations," KONNECT Entertainment, the 22-year-old's agency, said in a statement released through its official website on Tuesday. KONNECT asked for fans understanding as the decision was made to prioritize the safety of the artist and staff.

Kang successfully debuted solo last month with album "color on me" and its title song "What Are You Up To". The singer topped major South Korean song charts and sold more than 400,000 copies of the album in its first week of release, breaking the record for the "Artist with the Largest Album Sales in First Week of Release" compiled by Hanteo Chart, a state-funded music chart company.

To celebrate his solo debut, the singer was scheduled to hold fan meetings in four Asian cities -- Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Taipei -- starting from August 16 in Singapore but Hong Kong was excluded from the list because of its unstable social situation.

People of Hong Kong started anti-government protests in June to express opposition to a proposed extradition bill. The protests did not stop after the bill was suspended and evolved into a pro-democracy movement.
