SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company, KT, agreed with Golfzon County, the country's largest golf course operator, to establish a 5G smart golf course and launch new services using new technologies.

Under a memorandum of understanding, they agreed to establish a 5G smart golf course, launch related services, develop AI-based robot guidance services and self-driving cart systems, and cooperate in joint marketing.

KT and Golfzon County will transform Anseong H into a smart golf course by using a 5G communication network and other technologies. Golfzon County is a unit of Golfzon, the largest supplier of golf simulators. There are more than 7,000 "screen golf" cafes equipped with multiple simulators that have played a crucial role in boosting the popularity of golf in South Korea.

For their first project this year, they would offer a 120-degree swing matrix view at the main hall of Anseong H that would help customers get their own swing look and ball trajectory. In the future, they would add swing form calibration and lesson services by applying swing form analysis services.

Both companies agreed to discover innovative models and maximize synergy by combining Golfzon County's big data and operational know-how in golf and KT's 5G capabilities. "We will explore new markets so that customers can see and enjoy the sport in various ways and expand the added value of our businesses," said KT's marketing strategy division head Lee Phil-jae.

"This agreement will be a good opportunity to provide customers with various golf-related IT services based on KT's new communication technology," said Golfzon Country head Seo Sang-hyun.
